Yup, 1 year ago I started this blog. I’ve never had major viewership so its allowed me to change things, experiment, and re-work them as I like. I’m going to continue to do so in the future, I just hope I still enjoy writing in this here blog! If I never get major viewership that’s okay with me, I’m more worried about doing this as long as I enjoy it, and it doesn’t become a chore. It is just passions and hobbies afterall.
As for my new focus, everything I was writing about before stays. I’m still doing recipes, vintage cookbooks and bentos. None of that is leaving. That’s still my life in some ways. But I also have deep interests in design, interior decorating, crafts, scrapbooking, World of Warcraft (thanks to my boyfriend Brad!), books, photos, thrift storing, computer programs, cats, all sorts of things. So from now on, a little more general, a little more me.
Hope you stick around for it!
New header, new look, more or less the same name, same url. Different emphasis. I hope you still enjoy coming back!
Yup…sigh. Just a small order this time. Mostly I needed plastic storage for leftovers and sidecars for bento. I got tired of using plastic zippy bags, not to mention the expense and the waste…I bought a few other bento items while I was at it.
More silicon food cups – large & mini. I figured only having 3 or 4 of each wasn’t enough so I bought them just in case. Also got the furikake monkey that I wanted last time but couldn’t decide on whether or not I really wanted it. Its cute, but don’t know if I will use it much. I was thinking it would be very very handy for cinnamon and sugar when I bring jasmine rice (I love eating hot jasmine rice sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar for dessert – it smells and tastes SOO good). And since I’m tired of using boring old fake green grass for food dividers I bought 2 different types – lacey and what they said was traditional Japanese. And just so I had the right size for some items I bought large aluminum cupcake “papers”. Should be good for that freezer stash. And last but not least a vegetable slicer/shredder. I don’t have one, its come up and wanted to just get a cheap one instead of shelling out big bucks.
Yup…another order. Every time I order from them I’m dropping at least 40 bucks…I gotta stop this…too many pretties!!
Great shipping, packaged well…blah, blah, blah. If you’ve ordered from them you know this, if not read my past posts on it as nothing has changed. Anyway on to the best part…the goodies!
In this order I bought a few Christmas presents. Yeah, already. I know. But I was buying so I figured I better buy all the cool stuff I wanted now in case they weren’t in stock in Nov/Dec (and some of these have already been taken off their website!). Needless to say I am leaving some of it out of the pictures as my mother and sister read my blog and we can’t have them snooping…
Up first is a new bento box set – Baby Zoo. I bought it mostly because I thought it was cute but also because its 550 ml per box. That’s plenty of room for a lot of food when I actually need something like this. Plus the sayings are weird but made me laugh – on the yellow: “I will play and laugh very much! I will eat and sing very much! Today is never back again. Today becomes the valuable memory for me.” And on the pink: “The friend is a treasure of the life! The smile of the friends becomes my smile. The people of the around us let us smile, too.” Gotta love that English…and all the extra punctuation! Me in a nutshell!
Then there’s the brown band for the set (a nifty band I must say, just like my Men’s set – it has velcro and a latch holding it in place). Next to those are 3 sandwich boxes, collapsible – the pink one has a bottom compartment for extra food. Cool eh? Been wanting one of these for a long time so I guess I’m having sandwiches this week! And finally the pink band for the pink box and a Clickety Click spoon to go with the fork I already have.
I totally missed out on the bento boxes at Dollar Tree last year. I hadn’t gotten into them yet (just missed it) but I also don’t recall seeing any around here. Could just be my faulty memory however.
At any rate I didn’t find any new bento boxes this year (after all school is starting in a mere week here) but I did find this guy:
He comes with a portable folding spoon that is real junk and I will be tossing it. And its marked that it is not dishwasher or microwave safe. Its not marked for capacity however, so I had to use the water method of measuring. But the top layer holds about 250 mL and the bottom layer around 450 mL. I would go with slightly less as I never screwed anything together to see if any “slipped” out. The bottom is double walled but I’m not sure how thermal it would be. It comes in bright pink, bright green and this bright blue.
Well for a $1, not bad!! I’ll have to see what it can do with it sometime in the future when I’m in the mood for soup or porridge or something. Fall is coming!!
The the original windchime arrived broken. I emailed Ichiban Kan that Friday night. By Saturday morning I had an email asking for a picture of the damage and that they would send out a new one on Monday.
They shipped it 2nd Day Air and it arrived by Wednesday!
They went above and beyond fixing this situation…and for a $1.50 windchime at that. I certainly didn’t expect the courtesy response and rapid shipment…and this time the box was taped closed and packed VERY VERY well.
Thank you! Amazing work!!
Yup. Another order. But this one was different. It came squashed. And as a result one glass item ended up broken (at the end of the post). Otherwise it was shipped fast and just like always.
The complete “man’s” Liberty set from Lube Sheep. I already bought the top box (in my first Ichiban Kan order) and wanted to complete the set.
