Recipe: Oreo Truffles

Hardly a truffle really…but so good and so easy its hard not make these for the holidays. Now the original recipe by Kraft is awesome but I ended up with LOADS of crumbs leftover…and what’s the point of wasting them? Besides your going to want to double this recipe anyway…the original only makes about 40 balls and we all know that’s just not enough!


Yes you can use any flavor of Oreo you like but don’t use the Double Stuff ones…they just don’t come out right (perhaps too much creme in the centers? I don’t know).

(2) 18 ounce packages of Oreo cookies
(2) 8 ounce packages of cream cheese, soft
(1) 3 ounce package of cream cheese, soft
(2) 12 ounce bags of semisweet chocolate chips

Coming this week…

I’ve been having a heck of a time with my internet connection, between lousy wiring, a modem going bad and any number of OTHER things that I don’t even know or understand I haven’t been able to get pictures to upload correctly. I think I’ve got most of that fixed now…I guess I’ll see…

Either way starting later today and running until next week sometime I am going to post new recipes (mostly cookies) for holiday baking marathons. I’d like to post quite a few today and tomorrow (and not just limit myself to one a day or anything) as well as bring up previous recipes I’ve posted…all good eats for your holiday baking!

Recipe: Iced Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

I fell in love with this recipe from Simply Recipes and this recipe from Williams-Sonoma. I couldn’t decide which to make (and my hips certainly don’t need both) so I combined them…the base is the Williams-Sonoma recipe definitely, but I don’t like raisins with my pumpkin and I hate nuts entirely (yeah, yeah except peanut butter). Thus we have this amazing cookie…and with all Penzeys Spices (ya know the freshest, best spices – and vanilla – on the planet)…OMG! Yep. Make these. NOW!

You can fiddle with the spices a bit and see what you like…this turns out to be my preference for it. I am a chai drinker so I always have cardamom on hand, but you can totally leave it out and they still taste great.


3/4 cup butter (I prefer to bake with margarine, gives it a better texture)
3/4 cup brown sugar (I use dark on everything…gives it a nice kick)
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup pumpkin puree (half a 15 oz can or so)
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ground cardamom
2 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups quick or old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup raisins (if you really wanted to)

3 oz cream cheese
1 1/2 tbsp butter (I did use real butter for this!)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Exploring Cookbooks: 1975 Better Homes and Gardens – Homemade Cookies Cookbook

This poor cookbook has seen better days. Its very well loved and used still. It was my grandmother’s originally and I honestly don’t remember making too many cookie recipes besides those in these pages. I can remember many Christmas’s past were our all day cooking marathons involved nothing more than the pages of this book.

This book is a 1975 publication by Better Homes and Gardens. There are various subjects in this book series but I know that, at least in my family, this is the only one that mattered!! I honestly think my family has made every single recipe in this book as I can distinctly remember what each and every recipe tastes like.

If you ever find one of these at a thrift store, garage sale, whatever, BUY IT! You will never regret it!! Literally one of the best cookie cookbooks on the planet…no lie.
